When the lights for a shot derive from the rear of the scene, throwing the foreground figures into semi-darkness or silhouette. When the light source is the sun, you can use the French term 'Contre Jour' which translate to 'against daylight'.

Film Noir:
Neo Noir:
While these are actually styles of film making, they carry their very distinct style of lighting - deep shadows and sharply contrasting brightness. Film Noir refers to the original films using this style between 1940 and 1950. Neo Noir refers to modern films emulating that style.
